What is recovery coaching for sexual addiction?
To understand what recovery coaching is for sexual addiction, we also have to look at how it works and its effectiveness. So keep reading to learn how recovery coaching can help you overcome your addiction.
What is recovery coaching?
While psychotherapy and medication can have a massive positive impact on your recovery, it doesn’t do the work for you. Sex addiction is not always about the initial thrill but is a coping strategy to deal with difficult emotions or personal habits.
Whether you are on medication or psychotherapy, it can help to have someone on your side that keeps you accountable. If the Recovery Coach is someone like me, who has lived through their addiction, then you’ll receive solutions and support unlike any other.
Does recovery coaching work?
Recovery coaching for sexual addiction is pretty new (around 15 years old), and studies conducted by psychology today, hospitals, and universities worldwide demonstrate how effective this type of coaching is for recovering addicts.
The recorded benefits of recovery coaching are:
Reduce relapse
Reduce harm
Increased quality of life
Increase accountability
Regain purpose
Improve relationships
Until you have a moment of Insight, addictions continue. The capacity for Insight is built in. Once you have an insight, the jig is up.
— Carl Jung
What do recovery coaches do?
Recovery coaches support you to achieve your goals. Unlike counsellors and therapists, who will diagnose your addiction and prescribe your treatment, a recovery coach will give you the support, tools, and guidance you need. In short, I’ll help you with your day-to-day struggles to overcome your addiction. The role of the recovery coach is to be ‘future-focused.’
Some of the things I’ll help you with include:
Helping you create a plan of action
Providing you with the right resources for your needs
Holding you accountable and supporting you
Offer guidance to develop new behaviour patterns
Objectively viewing your progress
Sexual Addiction Recovery
Due to the stigma of sexual addiction, many men find it more comfortable to talk with another man who’s been there. So that’s what I’m here for, and ready to help you with.
I work specifically with men in Canada and throughout North America, dealing with life problems due to infidelity, excessive porn use, compulsive masturbation, and any other sexual behaviours they can’t control.
Many people who struggle with such behaviours have difficulty stopping on their own. They may be preoccupied with giving it up, and feel shame, regret, and hopelessness, seeing no way out of this cycle. I know I wouldn’t have been able to get free from my addiction without the support I had around me.
